  • Burnt World, is the work, and monicker, of film-maker and video artist Mark Oughton.

  • Founded in 2005, Burnt World has continually strived to improve its work and collaborate with like-minded artists.
    Burnt World's work has screened internationally including London, Sydney, LA & San Francisco.

  • The artistic influences behind the work include Béla Tarr, Alberto Giacometti, Christian Marclay and Kutluğ Ataman.
    The inspiration for the name derives from the concept of destruction for the purposes of rebirth, much like the mythological Phoenix, and is inspired by the Hindu Goddess, Kali.

Mark Oughton

Mark was born in Manchester long ago enough to have worn Global Hypercolour t-shirts as a child.

He began writing and directing for Preston Youth Theatre in 2008 before cameoing in adult roles for their productions.

After moving to Australia in 2011, Mark began formal acting training with short courses at WAAPA and PAC and had his first role overseas as Sebastian in The Tempest for Sydney Fringe Festival.
Through the Sydney cell of the Kino movement, he had his first short film role and has starred in, and occaisionally helped to crew, several other Kino and student shorts.

In 2013, Mark moved to New Zealand where he continues to develop Burnt World, act, direct and is involved in setting up Kino Auckland. His other interests include Manchester United, Scuba Diving and Horse Riding
